I had the opportunity to meet Taoping the other day at the orphanage and it was one of the best moments I have experienced since travelling. It was so simple. We were kicking a soccer ball around and just laughing and smile (since we cannot communicate all that well through language). We began seeing how many times we could bounce the ball in the air without it touching the ground, and we actually counted in Thai which was actually the first time we talked to each other. We must have done this for half an hour, saying nothing but 1,2,3,4 and so on. Finally at 3:30 the bell rang for the children to do their prayers and as he was about to leave he came over to me and said “see you tomorrow”. And I was actually somewhat surprised. I gave him a big smile and said see you tomorrow and he was off.
What was so special and unique about this moment was how simplistic it was. We couldn’t speak with each other, we couldn’t have conversations. However I felt like by the end of those 30 minutes that I was closer with Taoping than any other child I have met up to this point.
